Remember to Take Care of Yourself

It’s very easy for work at home moms to become so busy with the challenges of balancing work and family, that they forget to take care of themselves.  However, it doesn’t take long before the effects of self-neglect become apparent and the woman’s health, her business, and family suffer.  The most important thing that every woman can do to make sure that she performs both her work and family responsibilities at optimum level, is set aside time each day for her health and needs.

The most important areas that a stay at home mom needs to pay close attention to is diet, sleep, exercise, and stress release.  To say picking up bad habits when you spend the majority of your time in your home is an understatement, to say the least.  Many women may turn to caffeine when they need to finish a deadline, sacrifice much needed sleep trying to finish up last minute work related tasks, put off eating healthy meals for fast alternatives, and find themselves running on empty when its finally time to relax.

Not only are these effects hard on the working mom, but they take their toll on her children and husband as well.

Organization, goal setting, and committing to a schedule are the best ways to ensure that you take time each day to take care of your own needs.  First, you should make sure that you get roughly eight hours of sleep each night.  There is no way getting around it. Without sleep, your body will not be able to refresh itself and your mind will not be as alert.  It may be necessary to cut back on the amount of caffeine you are taking throughout the day to ensure that you will be able to get the amount of rest that you need each night. You may be tempted to forfeit sleep in an attempt to meet work deadlines, but you’ll soon discover that you can accomplish far more when well rested then when trying to go the extra mile on an empty tank.

It seems that when a woman has to juggle the responsibilities of raising children, household chores, and running a business that one of the first areas she begins to neglect is exercise.  It is vitally important that women continue to exercise.  If you find that it is too much to try to exercise daily, at least schedule yourself three sessions of aerobic exercise per week.  You exercise should consist of at least 20 minutes and new research shows that your workout doesn’t have to be consistent.  This means that you will reap the same amount of benefits by working out in two ten minute sessions, or even four five minute sessions.  However, you’ll find that if you look for creative ways to fit exercise in to your daily routine, you’ll be squeezing in enough aerobic activity to stay healthy and fit.  If you don’t like to work out at home, consider joining a gym and committing to three sessions per week.  By making the effort to exercise regularly you’ll reap many benefits including a natural defense against stress and helping  your body sleep regularly through the night.
