So You Want to Be a Work at Home Mom
So, you’ve decided
that you’d like to be a work at home mom. Maybe you’ve just had
a child and would like to avoid returning to the corporate world
after your maternity leave is up. Or perhaps you’re a stay at
home mom looking to supplement your husband’s income. Either
way, there are many opportunities available for you to earn
money without having to leave your children. With an internet
connection and some time, nearly anyone can work at home.
There are many job
possibilities available if you are considering working at home.
For those with computer skills, there are jobs in graphic
design, computer programming, internet research, transcription,
web content writing, and many other types of computer work
available. Many mothers make excellent full to part time income
using skills that they learned in the work force from home as
freelancers or consultants. If you have these type of skills,
you can network and find jobs on sites such as
www.digitalpoint.com ,
www.sitepoint.com, and
www.warriorforum.com . You can also
try bidding on jobs thorough sites like
www.elance.com or
www.rentacoder.com.
Even if you’re not
incredible technically savvy, with a little bit of study you can
pick up how to list items on
www.ebay.com. Items can often be found
at yard sales and thrift stores for low prices, and then resold
for a profit. Children’s name brand clothing is especially
profitable. If you are interested in selling on eBay, you will
need a PayPal account, as well as a digital camera to take
pictures of the items you will be selling.
If you are a crafty
person, you may be able to sell your crafts for a profit. Many
mothers do this locally through farmers markets, crafts shows,
flea markets, etc. and are able to make a tidy profit,
especially at the holidays. If you are interested in developing
an online presence, you can also build a shop through
www.etsy.com . Etsy works on
commission, taking a small portion of each sale you make and
charging a small listing fee per item. In exchange, you get your
own online storefront, with checkout through PayPal. Again, you
will need a PayPal account and a digital camera.
If you like to write,
ghostwriting may be a good way for you to make some extra money.
You can set up a blog for free through
www.wordpress.com or
www.blogger.com , with writing
samples, rates for articles and ebooks, and any information
you’d like potential clients to know. You can then advertise
your services on sites like
www.warriorforum.com,
www.rentaghostwriter.com,
www.elance.com,
www.digitalpoint.com, and others. Set
up payment arrangements through PayPal or Google checkout, and
you’ll have a steady income stream for months or years to come.
If you’ve been
considering working at home but were unsure of where to begin,
you now have a few ideas. Take the time to research what work at
home opportunity is right for you. Remember that if you have to
pay to join, it probably isn’t something you’re interested in
doing. Stick to jobs that pay you, and you’re well on your way
to being a work at home mom!
